My poor acorn squashes are being invaded by slugs and snails GRRR! So I need to come up with a deterrent, because I don't want to kill them. I also don't want to put chemicals in my garden, because I don't want chemicals on my food. Reusing those egg shells and coffee grinds. Add old coffee grinds and egg shells to a mixer and blend into a fine power. Sprinkle this either on the plant or around the ground around the plant. They hate the smell of coffee TOTALLY UNLIKE ME! Another smell they hate is garlic again TOTALLY UNLIKE ME! Crushing fresh garlic and soaking it in water to produce a strong garlic spray and spray over the plants that need protection. I then store it in the fridge so it doesn't get rancid. Medium Planting specific plants that slugs dislike next to your plant that normal would attract the slugs and snails. This can be figured into when you are planning your garden, but can be done later as well. Herbs: ginger, garlic, chives, mint Veggies: kale, spring cabbage, or sprouting broccoli Hard Bring on the natural enemy! The only reason I listed this as hard is if you are purchasing the ground beetle larvae from a gardening store or amazon you need to allow time for delivery then hatch. You can also attract wild ones them too by adding medium sized stones for the beetles to hide under. As you are applying your deterrent say:
"Pest be gone leave my plant slugs and snails are no allowed here find your meal somewhere else"
