This week we are starting our first part of our Nature Kids Summer School Lessons for younger kids. This is a 4-week lesson plan that will fill the period between Lithia, June 21 and countdown to Lughnasadh, August 2. This year we will be focusing on how traditional methods of teaching actually impact life. Each lesson plan for the week will have a lesson about a standard subject, with vocabulary words, quiz, experiments, spell work with corresponding Deity work, and guided meditations. Please check back every week to follow along. Kids love video games. Coding is a great way to connect video games, and computers together. Kids can start learning basic programming as early as 5 years old. Creativity goes hand in hand with computer programming. Already having an intro to coding will help them when they are in school as well. Many schools offer STEM-based activities where kids can learn programming, such as a school's robotics team. This lesson is to help kids learn about programming. Programming is a new thing for careers. Even if your child doesn’t decide to use their coding skills in their career, learning the basics of computer programming is extremely useful. This website course shows kids what coding is. Kids can follow their interests, tell stories through games and videos, or share their passions by building websites. Creativity goes hand in hand with computer programming. With coding kids can incorporate math, music, and artwork into a story. This is a basic explanation of what coders do. When computer programmers code, they tell computers, mobile devices, and software programs how to run. Depending on the application, a computer programmer might use HTML or CSS. When creating a video game, the coder might script in Python or Java. When creating a lesson plan for your child around coding there is a lot to consider. Both the child's age and understanding of what is being taught need to be adjusted to each lesson and each individual. Kids start learning basic programming as early as 5 years old. They learn through image-based games and puzzles. Pre-readers might start with block-based puzzles and sequencing. Young learners ages 5-7, might drag and drop images to learn the basic concepts behind coding. Older kids can start with text-based coding. This teaches them the full programming languages. in a fun way. It is also important to establish how long the classes should be? I recommend adjusting the length of the lessons to both age and child's attention span. It is important to know that most of the free courses available are at a fairly basic level. If your child is interested in learning more about coding you may want to contact your local schools, college, or library for any STEM or computer programing lessons. You don’t need to be an expert computer programmer to talk to your kids about the basics of coding. Simply follow and help them through each tutorial. These websites introduce kids to coding and computing through the use of animated videos. While teaching coding to kids, there is one simple rule: make it fun. Most of these websites teach kids through activities. They can play a game and create an animation they designed. Websites for Kids CodingCode.org A free website with hour-long classes divides by age group. The site offers coding tutorials and games for young coders. Coding Safari Coding Safari is free to download. Kids as young as three can learn to create cute creatures using code. Lightbot Is a free app available for Apple and Android devices. Kids are guided to create a robot character through these levels using programming. Khan Academy With free courses for kids that offer an hour of code. They can learn JavaScript drawing and animation, and HTML. Java is to JavaScript what car is to Carpet. Chris Heilmann

As a mom of three boys who go to public school I started to notice that some things were not being taught in detail so I decided to create lessons for them.
