I love a good centerpiece and Ostara is no exception. We are creating a Egg Centerpiece to place on our table. Eggs are a symbol of life and rebirth so placing them on your dining table brings life into your home. Our eggs are created from yarn, mod podge, and a balloon. Ostara is a time of fertility which is why the egg is a perfect symbol of this time. Many different types of creatures lay eggs to give birth to their young. When many people think of creatures that lay eggs they think of birds, and reptiles. What most people don't know is that some mammals give birth by laying eggs as well. These mammals are called monotremes, they form an umbilical cord to the egg which feeds the baby inside the egg until hatched. Have you seen a monotremes mammal yes probably at a zoo they are the platypus and several types of spiny anteaters. Now that we discussed why we are making eggs lets look at our materials we will be using. We will be using yarn that we will be wrapping around my a balloon to create our egg. Yarn is usually made from a synthetic fibers intertwine to create it. Yarn has been around for over 20,000 years during the earlier times they would use plant and animal fibers to create the yarn instead of artifical fibers. Our yarn is the modern version i.e. synthetic , but that doesn't mean it can't represent a natural element to our display. We then blow up a small sized balloon a little bigger than a hand and tie it off. We then wrap the balloon with yarn n a design that suits you. Now we are going to brush mod podge all over the yarn. Now if you are not a crafter you may wonder what is mod podge? Mod podge was created by a crafter in 1960 who was displeased by the glue available to crafters. So he developed a water and polyvinyl acetate based glue that acts the same as glue but is lighter and easier to work with. If you don't have mod podge you can just use regular glue and water it down a bit. Materials Mod Podge Balloons Multi colored pastel yarn Sponge paintbrush Instructions Blow up your balloons until they are about 6 inches tall. Remember if you only blow it a tad less it will look egg shaped. Cover the balloon with the Mod Podge using your sponge brush. It is ok to only do a thin coat, because you will be adding more later. Tie the yarn little bit to the balloon knot on top to secure it while you wrap the yarn all around the balloon making any design you like. When you are done wrapping it cut the end of the string and wrap it under another piece. Now dip your sponge in the mod podge and dab it all over the string, making sure you cover it really well. Let it dry for about 24 hours it needs to be fully dry, not even a little moist. Pop the balloon with a pin and carefully pull the deflated balloon out. It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

As a mom of three boys who go to public school I started to notice that some things were not being taught in detail so I decided to create lessons for them. Many of these lessons cover science, history and of information about Paganism. I share crafts for the all different holidays and cultures as ways that they can learn and have fun at the same time.
