SmudgingIn our house we have a little tradition every night the day before school I smudge each of the kids. Smudgig what is that you ask? Smudging or sageing is the ancient art of burning sage bundles and using the smoke to cleanse the person of any negative energy. Many cultures from Ancient Egyptians to Native American have used this technique to cleanse not just each other, but their homes and ritual spaces as well. Sage is an herb that is grown in most gardens for not just culinary uses, but medicinal and magickal as well. Some will burn sage to help them with their asthma, although I am not to big a fan of that idea. You can also make an sage tea to help with depression, arthritis, to even relieve the discomfort of that special time of month. Unfortunately my sage plant didn't grow that well this year, because it was crazy hot so I need to buy some at my local natural food store. If you are making your own you can add other herbs for certain purposes. You gather your sage the put it in a nice little bundle and wrap it with a little rope. ⦁ Lavender: helps to create emotional balance. ⦁ Rosemary: Brings about mental clarity and calmness ⦁ Cedar: helps to ground your energy It is always a good idea to smudge a home and yourself if there has been a lot of tension or anxiety in a home. Homes and objects can absorb negative energy just like we do so if you feel not good about an item smudge it. Before I smudge I always smudge myself, because how can you cleanse something else if you filled with not balanced energy. For smudging you need four simple tools:
a candle sage bundle a feather a fire proof bowl or large shell Place all on a table in front of you and put on some calming music. I love Buddhist chants on Pandora. Now light the candle, and place the tip of the sage bundle into the flame hold it over the flame for a few seconds. Now standing in front of the person start a the heart seeing the smoke cleansing the person. Start pushing energy down with the feather sending the negative energy down to the Earth. Now slowly move down the body seeing the energy going down then I move their side and starting again at the head moving to the feet. I usually like to say something along the like of I cleanse this person of their troubles. I cleanse this person of their worries. I cleanse this person of any negativity. Once you have move around the whole body sending all the negative energy into the Earth see that person's body filling with calming energy. I then usually say, I fill this person with the loving, blissful energies of the Earth. I fill this person with kindness and courage so they may achieve all that they desire. If you are smudging your home start in the center of the home and move in a clockwise motion thru the home making sure ever part of the home, room is cleansed. Once you have light the sage to smudge, don't put it out instead place it in a safe fireproof bowl to let it finish naturally. It is believed that the sage with stay lite till all the negativity is gone, so that means it can be for a moment or for a After you light the sage, do not stop it from burning. The spirit of white sage knows just how much negativity or 20 minutes. f you watch the smoke, sometimes it will drift to a particular part of the room, car, or person - that is where the healing/protection energy is most needed.

As a mom of three boys who go to public school I started to notice that some things were not being taught in detail so I decided to create lessons for them. Many of these lessons cover science, history and of information about Paganism. I share crafts for the all different holidays and cultures as ways that they can learn and have fun at the same time.
