This week we are starting our first part of our Nature Kids Summer School Lessons for younger kids. This is a 4-week lesson plan that will fill the period between Lithia, June 21 and countdown to Lughnasadh, August 2. This year we will be focusing on how traditional methods of teaching actually impact life. Each lesson plan for the week will have a lesson about a standard subject, with vocabulary words, quiz, experiments, spell work with corresponding Deity work, and guided meditations. Please check back every week to follow along. This lesson is about giving kids an intro to careers. If you are a parent of an elementary or middle school student, your child's career choice is probably the furthest thing from your mind. It’s never too early to encourage a little career exploration in your students. This is more of an intro to careers so we will not be going into the steps necessary to get a job, such as writing a resume and conduct during an interview. Career- an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress Job- a paid position of regular employment Skill- the ability to do something well; expertise Hobby-an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure Children are usually only aware of a small number of occupations like a doctor, dentist, teacher, firefighter, police officer, and whatever it is their parents and relatives do. They may not realize that their hobbies can be connected to a career. It is normal for kids to have no idea of what kind of job they want to do when they are adults. Kids need to understand that careers are a job and they do not define the person. The journey to find the perfect career is a long process of self-discovery and experimenting. Let them know that they may change course as they navigate their career path, and that is ok. Your child is a unique individual. If your child is interested in a career that doesn’t line up with their natural strengths, that doesn’t mean it's not for them. Instead, brainstorm how your child can use their strengths in that field. Now for our activity, we are going to come up with the right job for your child. The first step to that stage is to ask each kid to think about what interests or hobbies they like? Some kids may not know the name of the specific skills they like so allow them to describe them. Then together brainstorm ideas for jobs or careers that would fit well with those interests. For example, your child could say they like to play with Legos. From that, you can ask them to do you like the building Legos. Do they like the construction aspect? The design aspect? This can give them away to connect what they like to do with a career. Once kids have found their “dream job”, they can start making a plan and taking the right steps towards getting there. Middle to high school age kids can choose electives in school that match up with their career choice. For example, for if your child is entrusted in a construction aspect, they offer building construction as an elective. HOMEWORK Ask a person you know whose job is interesting to your questions. Some examples of questions are: What made you decide this job? Did you have to take special training for your job? Do you like your job? Tell me one fun fact about your job? Can you describe a day in the life of at your job? Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

As a mom of three boys who go to public school I started to notice that some things were not being taught in detail so I decided to create lessons for them. Many of these lessons cover science, history and of information about Paganism. I share crafts for the all different holidays and cultures as ways that they can learn and have fun at the same time.
